Insecurity: Why government should pay adequate attention to education for youths – Emir

The emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Council, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has admonished government at all levels to pay premium attention to the provision of adequate education for the youths to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.

The Emir, who stated this at the weekend while speaking at a prayer he organized for Professors of Ilorin Emirate, held at his palace in Ilorin, the state capital, described education as the bedrock of any emerging nation capable of curbing insecurity.

He explains that the prayer becomes very important in order to promote scholarship and excellence amongst the entire citizenry so as to provide platforms for genuine mentorship for youths, saying it was only through the provision of quality education that the security challenges being experienced can be reduced to the barest minimum.

The traditional ruler says: “Only adequate religions and western education can curb incessant insecurity which is posing threat on our wellbeing as a nation.

“We are proud that Ilorin Emirate has over the years produced countless of professors in various fields of human endeavours who are proffering solutions to global problems through research and innovations. In addition, we are still expecting more of them to join the professorial cadre very soon.

“This is an asset to us as a community with unique history, culture and tradition.”

Sulu-Gambari, however, urged those who have attained the position of professorship to support government’s effort to provide genuine mentorship for the youths, as he counsels all the professors from Ilorin Emirate to shun rivalry and work as a team in ensuring educational development in the state and the country at large.

Business Day reports that the prayer was conducted for 85 professors who are indigenes of Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State.
