Majesty Tsuzom, a 400-level Architecture student of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, who emerged as the institution’s one-day vice-chancellor, has called on policy makers at all levels to prioritise decisions that directly address people’s needs and welfare.
Speaking during his one-day leadership role at the vice-chancellor’s office, Tsuzom, flanked by other members of the one-day management team, said governance should be driven by clarity of purpose, stressing that leaders must consistently identify issues requiring urgent attention and how best to resolve them.
He advised policymakers to remain focused on “what matters most,” noting that effective leadership lies in the ability to identify and address critical challenges rather than becoming distracted by less essential matters.
The one-day Vice Chancellor also stated that development is best achieved when leaders work closely with those under them to identify problems and implement practical solutions.
“When you have good ideas, it will create development, when you work hand-in-hand with those under you, and you focus on what to be fixed, and how it’s to be fixed,” he said.
Oyinoluwa Adebiyi, a 500-level Law student, who served as the one-day registrar, also spoke at the event, said that she observed gaps in information dissemination within the institution.
Adebiyi said one of the proposals she presented to the student body and other members of the management team was the creation of a centralised information hub to ensure information reaches students effectively, noting that many students complain about not receiving information on time.
She also highlighted the need to make complaint processes easier for students, adding that the team was working on a proposed 48-hour response policy to ensure quicker attention to complaints.
The Bowen University one-day management team initiative allows selected students to temporarily assume leadership roles within the institution as part of efforts to build leadership skills.
Other members of the one-day management team include Gideon Adeosun, a 400-level Law student who served as deputy vice-chancellor; Anuoluwapo Odeyemi-Grace, a 400-level Accounting student who served as bursar; Victoria Madu-Chidinma, a 400-level Computer Science student who served as the university librarian; and Ayooluwa Shola-Akinbode, a 300-level Mechatronics Engineering student who served as the chaplain.
