As part of its social responsibility to the People, the Agbami group of Oil Companies has handed of an ultra-modernScience Laboratory worth millions of Naira to Ibeku High Schoo in Umuahia, Abia state capital.
The Laboratory was built andequipped by the Agbami group made up of Chevron (Star Deepwater PetroleumLimited, Staroil Nigeria Limited,PetroleoBrasiliero Limited, NNPC andFamfa OilLimited.
While commissioning the project,Governor OkezieIkpeazu of Abia state commended the group for what it had beendoing for the nation as a whole.
Ikpeazu who was represented by hisDeputy, UdeOkoChukwu recalled that the group two years ago donated a chestclinic to Amachara Specialist Hospital in Umuahia which he noted that has beenserving the people of the state.
“What we are doing today is part ofyour the social responsibilities.
Youhave equally offered scholarship to students which Abia state benefitted. Youhave come to give more impetus to what Abia is doing in the educational sectorwhich one of the five pillars of our administration” said Ikpeazu.
He promised to maintain the projectin order to achieve the objective for which it had been established and chargedthe management and students of the school to effective use of the facility.
Speaking during the ceremony, theManaging Director of Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited, Richard Kennedy disclosedthat the Agbami Parties had resolved to improve the availability andaffordability of quality to Nigerians.
Kennedy who was represented by SamOtuonye, Manager, Policy, Governmentsand Public Affairs noted that the Laboratory was expected to have a huge impacton the students because it would provide them with up to date sciencelaboratory equipment for undertaking experiments and for writing theirexaminations.
He disclosed that the goup hadimplemented other projects in Abia state in education and health which includedthe provision of Chest Clinic at Amachara Specialist and Diagnostic Centre,Umuahia in addition to 1,067 Abia indigenes who benefited from Agbami Medicaland Engineering
Professional scholarships since 2009 while 119 indigines benefittedfrom the NNPC/CNL JV scholarships between 2014 and 2016.
Also speaking during the occasion,the Chairman of Famfa Oil Limited, ModupeAlakija hinted that the group had beencontributing to the provision of quality healthcare and needed manpower for thesustainable development of Nigeria through social investment in various partsof the country.
Alakija who was representedObinnaIheonu said ”We have completed several projects and have continued toimplement more projects to provide quality education, improve healthcaredelivery and improve livelihoods through economic empowerment for young ones across thecountry.”
The Chairman disclosed that “the advancement of education holds special attraction for us at Famfa and we are happy that over the 33 science laboratories which we donated to various institutions are helping to stimulate interest in Science, Technology,Engineering and Mathematics nationwide.
