Following preparatory efforts towards safe reopening of schools, the federal government on Thursday directed states to comply with risk assessment directive,while also ensure that stipulated safety guidelines and protocols are complied with.
Sani Aliyu,the National Cordinator of the Presidential Task Force on Thursday at the press briefing in Abuja said such measures would put to stop the spread of the covid pandemic,stressing that young people could easily spread it while being assymptomatic.
Sani observed further that while the lockdown has proven that school closure is one of the effective ways of preventing the spread of the pandemic,he appealed to students and parents to take necessary actions in preventing the spread of the pandemic.
According to Sani,”There is no doubt the opening of schools and learning would be done at some stage,the education of our students is important,but must be done in a safe manner and we must all take responsibility.”
“Our appeal today for students and parents is to take the necessary actions toensure safety of students across the country. Students on the other hand have the responsibility of abiding by the non pharmaceutical interventions, physical distancing, staying two meters aparts in classrooms and dining halls.
Sani explained further that class attendants will be different from what it used to be,while urging students to adapt with the new arrangements.
Speaking on international travel,Sani urged those travelling outside the country to upload their PCR results in the laid out portal to enable easier verification by the immigration and port health officials at the Airport.
According to Sani,the demand on the portal has been significant,assuring that the PTF is working with its partners the CACOVID to resolve some concerns in the portal.
Sani also noted that the PTF has held a meeting with the northern traditional counci,and with the grand patron,the Sultan of Sokoto,His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar to ensure that the message is driven home with the support of the traditional institutions.
” I think the message has been transmitted and received, but we want to work more closely with the traditional institutions to deepen awareness and improve our response using the recorded model of success in polio eradication.” Sani said.
