The importation rate of the COVID-19 pandemic by inbound travellers has increased by 62 percent as Nigeria’s caseload hit 1,145 in the highest daily surge on Thursday.
Between December 7 and 13, week 50, the number of international travellers with a positive result a week after arrival was 129 compared to 81 in the preceding week.
This followed an increase in the number of in-bound international travellers at Nigerian airports from 11,711 to 15,805 during the same period.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday confirmed 459 fresh cases in Lagos, pushing the total confirmed cases to 76,207 from 864,104 samples tested so far.
The spiral rise in new confirmed cases has been attributed to rising community infections across the country.
The number of discharged cases dropped to 1,316 from 1,726 in week 50, while 1,197 deaths were reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.6 percent.
