The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has dismissed the rumour making rounds on social media that the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is spread through broiler chickens as completely false.
The centre in a statement on Tuesday explained that scientists are working on identifying the animal source of the new virus, explaining that there is currently no known link between the virus and broiler chickens.
“The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is aware of a rumour being shared on social media, that the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is spread through broiler chickens”.
“The NCDC can confirm that this is completely false. The public is advised to disregard this rumour and discourage further spread.
“For accurate information on COVID-19 or disease outbreaks in Nigeria, please visit www.ncdc.gov.ng, Twitter and Facebook- @NCDCgov,” the statement read in part.
