Ebonyi governor, daughter, aides test negative for Covid-19 after 4 weeks in isolation

Umahi orders re-sealing of traders’ shop in Ebonyi market

The governor of Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, David Umahi, has tested negative for coronavirus.

This is coming four weeks after the governor went into isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

The governor confirmed this in a statement he personally signed on Friday, July 31, in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Umahi, who is also the chairman of South-East Governors’ Forum, disclosed that his daughter and three of his close aides who got infected with the virus also tested negative.

He thanked the people of Ebonyi State and Nigeria for their prayers and solidarity during the trial period.

Recall that on July 4, 2020, Governor Umahi announced that he, his daughter, and close aides tested positive for Covid-19 after carrying out two different tests. Although he said they were not showing any symptoms, he, however, said they went into isolation in line with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols.

He had, therefore, directed the deputy governor, Kelechi Igwe, to take over the frontline coordination of the state affairs.
