Delta Gov. Okowa and wife test positive for COVID-19

Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has announced that he and his wife have tested positive for Coronavirus.

Governor Okowa announced this on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

“My wife and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We are well and continuing with our isolation/medication. We thank you all for your continued prayers for us and our daughter.”

The two heads of the First Family in the state, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olisa Ifeajika, are stable and have commenced necessary treatment, and further isolation.

The governor thanked Deltans for their prayers for his family, and called for continued supplications for all patients undergoing treatment for the pandemic.

He assured that his administration would not relent in its efforts at combating the virus in the state, and urged the public to support the government in that regard by complying with prescribed protocols by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Okowa reiterated that “COVID-19 is real. The rate is increasing in our state and the virus is taking the lives of some of our people.

“I, therefore, again call on every Deltan to observe the protocols on the virus while in public, to curb further spread of the virus, especially in the communities.’’

Meanwhile, the state information commissioner, Charles Aniagwu and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chiedu Ebie who tested positive for the virus two weeks ago, are yet to recover and resume work even as the ministry complex and office respectively, have remained shut as directd by the state government.
The government through the local government council’s in the state, has also moved to ensure nobody enters into public places like markets etc, without wearing his/her facemasks among other things, to curtail the continuous spread of the virus.

Governor Okowa joins the list of prominent public officials in Nigeria that have contracted the Coronavirus disease.
