Covid 19: Panic in Taraba as results of 7 quarantined travellers earlier released return positive

There was panic in Taraba on Wednesday when it was revealed that the coronavirus results of seven quarantined travellers earlier released by the State covid:19 team returned positive.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed 148 new cases of Coronavirus on Tuesday, out of which seven were from Taraba, according to the agency.

One hundred and thirty travellers moving from Borno, Yobe and other states from the north were intercepted by the security agents in the state and were sent to the quarantine center located at the NYSC camp in Jalingo.

Six out of the number were earlier confirmed positive while the remaining124 were hurriedly released.

The NCDC on Wednesday declared that the seven awaited results were positive putting the entire state into fear and confusion.

A member of the State covid-19 team who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that  the committee was under pressure to release the 124 persons even before their results were released.

“They mounted pressure on the committee to release them and they were released before results of coronavirus test conducted on them came out,” he said, but added that it would be easy to locate them because full documentation was carried out on those released.

Briefing news men in Jalingo, the chairman of the covid- 19 Task force team in Taraba state, Innocent Vakkai, who urged the residents of the state not to panic, said the committee would trace both the released patients and their contacts for isolation and treatment.

With the seven new positive cases coronavirus cases in Taraba state has now risen to 15.
