Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has tested negative for coronavirus, the state government said.

Obaseki had Wednesday gone into self-isolation as well as sent his samples for testing.

The self- isolation was a sequel to the governor’s close contact with the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed and Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who have both tested positive for coronavirus.

A statement by Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, said the test in which the governor tested negative was that of the rapid diagnostic test, while the result of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test is being awaited. The PCR  is used for the diagnosis of viral infections.

“I can confirm that the governor tested negative for coronavirus when he ran the rapid diagnostic test for the virus. However, we are currently awaiting the result of more conclusive PCR test.”

“In the meantime, the governor has decided to continue to work in self-solation and he is asymptomatic,” he added.
