Visa, global payment Technology Company, has partnered with Total Nigeria to foster partnerships and improve card usage for purchases while enhancing consumer efficiency, and to reward customers who use their Visa card to buy fuel at Total service stations in Lagos state, Nigeria.
The promotion aims at educating consumers and businesses on the convenience of making payments for fuel and other commodities at Total service stations.
Speaking about the partnership at the media launch which held last week at the Onigbagbo Total filling station, along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Ade Ashaye, country manager, Visa West Africa, said: “At Visa we are committed to developing creative ways of driving the cashless policy in Nigeria through e-commerce and we understand that card payments are more secure than cash payments for both buyers and sellers.
“This is why we have partnered with Total to launch the ‘Total fuel campaign with Visa’, to ensure that personal finances are managed effectively with minimal costs by our cardholders.
“Also, consumers will not only be able to enjoy the usual benefits of paying with their Visa card, but they will also be rewarded for it.”
Also speaking at the event, Maxence Bourgoing, the network development manager, Total Nigeria plc, said, “We are happy to work with Visa on this project. Total has invested a lot in ensuring that our service stations are up to international standards and this partnership is certainly a step in the right direction.”
Bourgoing added that, “Globally there is a drive towards e-commerce and card payments and we are happy to be at the forefront of this initiative in Nigeria. Total service stations are a key interaction point with our customers and so we promise to continuously offer innovative payment solutions that make purchases as seamless as possible.”
According to Visa, the campaign will run for seven weeks from October 19th to December 6th, 2015; with seven Total service stations giving out N1, 000 worth of free petrol daily to 10 Visa card users who buy petrol worth N3, 000 and above.
The executives of the two companies while answering questions from the media also revealed that the seven stations that will be giving out free fuel will be pre-selected and they will change daily to ensure all stations get fair rounds.
Ashaye also stated that cardholders will also stand a chance of winning free fuel for a year through a raffle draw by sending an SMS to a short-code which will be provided at the service stations.
The campaign, which kicked off on the day of the launch, had already recorded a number of winners from various Total service stations around Lagos as at the time the event was midway through.
Visa also followed the presentation of prices to winners from the various service stations through its Twitter handle with the event stopping momentarily to have the top executives of the two companies present at the event making an award presentation to one of the winners – Lawrence Idowu, a driver who received the prize on behalf of his boss who declined the media attention for personal reasons.
