The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), a leading recognised professional body in the country, has stressed the need for Nigerians to brace up and join forces to reduce the social threats plaguing the country for the progress of the nation.

“The Nigerian project is for all of us to execute,” said ‘Dele Togunde, register and chief executive officer, ICSAN, adding that as good citizens and professionals, “we need to brace-up and join positive forces to move prothis country forward.”

He noted that the ongoing National Conference was initiated to jaw-jaw about the country’s problems and proffer solutions.

Suleyman Ndanusa, president and chairman of council of ICSAN, in its address at the 13th induction ceremony of the institute in Lagos, told the inductees and others to continue to be good ambassadors of the institute, saying, “The need for you to maintain accountability and transparency in all your dealings is sine qua non to success in all your professional calling.”

He said the institute had been at the forefront of promoting the ideals of corporate governance through representations made into the various statutory codes, through meetings with the various arms of government, stakeholders’ forum, roundtable and public lectures on corporate governance.

“You must display the highest level of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of your duties in line with the vision of our institute. I admonish you to maintain your stand and refuse to compromise irrespective of whose ox is gored. You must shun all forms of unethical practices and any act capable of tarnishing the good name of our institute and our nation in general”, he said.

Ndanusa, who was represented by Nat Ofo, vice-president of the institute, said as professionals, members should not allow or entertain any form of corruption to taint them or affect their sense of judgment at all times. “We must remember that we are corporate governance soldiers that have been commissioned into the society to fight that which is evil and ensure that good is crowned victorious at all times.”

“A way of confronting the current wave of unemployment is to create wealth and be an employer. You can achieve this through practising as a chartered secretary and administrator.”
