Popular mobile manufacturer, TECNO Mobile, would today flag off its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR initiative, targeted at providing solar powered street lights across Nigeria.

The CSR initiative which the company said it began in November 2015 after it received approval from Lagos state government, will begin with lighting up the Ikeja computer village.

The aim of beginning the CSR project with Ikeja, according to the company, is to foster a better business atmosphere and security in and around the electronics market at night.

According to Chidi Okonkwo, Managing Director Tecno Nigeria, “In the past we’ve seen streetlight projects fail but this particular TECNO streetlight project cannot fail because we understand to what extent the use of substandard materials and quack engineering can damage brilliant ideas and dent a company’s image that has taken years to build.”

“To avoid this pitfall, TECNO has used the best solar-power and LED technology from a leading Chinese multinational iFLUX lighting company to execute the Ikeja streetlight project,” he added.

Okonkwo assured the community that every resource at his company’s disposal was deployed to secure the best materials for the project, adding that “we cannot jeopardize a long running relationship of mutual respect between TECNO and our host by commissioning a bogus project in the presence of Nigeria’s leading media houses.”
