Safe Pulse, a technology enabled security solution, has emerged overall best winner of the the ninth African Girls in Tech (AGIT) Academy hackathon challenge.
Safe Pulse emerged winner, after pitching against seven other solutions across healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and service at the recent hybrid grand finale and hackathon.
Other finalists at the hackathon include: Carebridge (second place), Ecosort (third place), Signova (fourth), Mealink (fifth), Africonnect (sixth), Craftizonea (Seventh), and Tour Africa (eighth).
The AGIT Academy is a flagship initiative of Africa Agility, a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to expand technology knowledge to females across Africa.
Princess Ukut, a member of the Safe Pulse Team, explained that the solution is a community driven intelligence platform which enables people to report safety threat cases anonymously to a portal where they can be connected in real-time with response organisations.
“An individual anonymously submits a distress signal and it is transformed into actionable intelligence. That intelligence is delivered to NGOs and response organisations through a real time dashboard,” Ukut said.
Jasmine Pega, who announced the result of the Hackathon on behalf of the judges, congratulated the finalists stating that although the programme has ended, Africa Agility hopes that the impact it has achieved continues.
“It is not about who won or who lost but about the testimonials and what participants have learned. Africa is our only currency and we have to do more.”
Damilola Daniels, programs & partneship lead, Africa Agility, said that all graduating students will proceed to the next level of the programme known as ‘Mentor Her.’
According to her, the initiative will exposed the ladies to professional support to deepen their career journey. She added that the support will include professional LinkedIn and Upwork optimization with mock interviews in their areas of specialisation to prepare them for the world of work.
The AGIT Academy ninth cohort ran through 16 weeks of learning across nine focus areas, which include: Product Design, Product Management, Scrum Mastery, Branding and Marketing, and Data Analytics among others.
