As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy of giving back to the society and caring for the less privilege, one of Nigeria’s leading logistics company, Red Star Express plc, recently visited the Red Cross Orphanage on Makoko Street and the Old Peoples’ Home on Lancaster Road, both situated in Yaba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

The visits saw officials of the logistics company donating items, mostly food and kitchen appliances, with the hope that the items help to improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries.

According to Ngozi Ochokwu, marketing manager, Red Star Group, the visit is an activity of the company that has been established as part of its CSR initiative which is tagged “I-Care Project” and aimed at alleviating the plight of the less privileged in the community.

“Every year, Red Star Group uses the I-Care Project as a platform to reach out to communities with needs. It is the least we can do as a corporate organisation and we are committed to it. The project kicks off with a nationwide campaign in all our offices. Staff and customers are encouraged to drop items in the special I-Care boxes located in the offices over the collection period. These are then brought together and delivered to the selected homes. Our sincere desire is that our little gesture will help in no small measure in making life for the beneficiaries more comfortable,” said Ochokwu.

Gloria Chiekwe, the administrative officer of the Red Cross Orphanage Yaba, while appreciating the visit, commended the logistics company for donating to humanity as some of the commodities given were used to assisting unfortunate victims of natural disasters and accidents.

Feyisayo Olaore, matron of the Old Peoples’ Home, also commended Red Star for the donations, tasking other corporate business organisations to emulate the gesture.

Red Star Express plc is a licensee of FedEx, the world’s largest express transportation company, providing fast and reliable delivery to more than 220 countries and territories around the world.
