Pitcher Awards to take Africa’s creative minds to the World

Young creatives across Africa have a chance of showcasing their creativity on the world stage with the Creativity Week’s Pitcher Awards 2018. The Pitcher Awards is the long-awaited category to complement all the other programmes of the Creativity Week such as the Young Lions Competitions, Future Creative Leaders Academy, the Miami Ad School Scholarship Competition, the Young Professionals Academies, the Creativity Week Expo and Seminars.

Creativity Week is the Pre-Cannes Lions Festival programme of CHINI Productions, official Cannes Lions Festival Representative in Nigeria. In its first edition in 2018, the Pitcher Awards will honour and celebrate outstanding work from West and Central Africa as well as the people behind the works.

Nnamdi Ndu, Cannes Lions Representative in Nigeria and Managing Director CHINI Africa, said the Young Pitcher Award will go to the team of any two professionals under 30 from any country in West and Central Africa whether they are in Creative, Media, PR, Digital, or Brand management who wins the Young Pitcher Integrated Competition.

“Apart from the enviable trophy, the duo will get an all-expense-paid trip to attend the Dubai Lynx. This does not take the place of the Young Lions Competitions, which is also now open to young professionals from across the region,” he stated. According to Ndu, a special Pitcher Awards publication featuring a compilation of all the winning works will be presented to the over 16,000 delegates from around the world that attend Cannes Lions annually.

Speaking further on the benefits, Ndu said the Pitcher Awards night will hold on 24 March to conclude the 2018 Creativity, and therefore calls for entry. “I welcome professionals, agencies and clients alike to come on board and help project the true and positive spirit of Africa to the world.”

“To give international visibility to the people, agencies and brands behind the winning works, we have concluded arrangements with Lürzer’s Archive to publish a compilation of the winning works in a volume that will be distributed worldwide. Also, the winning works will be celebrated online on the Lürzer’s Archive website.”

The Pitcher Awards will be judged by 3 main juries.  Traditional ads like Film, Print, posters and radio will make up one category. While the other 2 categories will be Media and Digital. Special awards will include Agency of the Year, Advertiser of the Year, Young Pitcher Award and Best Original Work in French. Early jury membership for this category includes Yoann Talhouarne, Regional Audio-Visual Attache French Embassy in Nigeria and Kwame Senou, Chief Operations Officer, Harmonies, Cotonou, Benin Republic.
