As part of efforts to deepen penetrations in the Nigerian lighting market and give stakeholders a feel of its new technology, Oscram GmbH brand, global leader in energy efficient lamp manufacturing, is set to organise a two-day seminar in Lagos and Abuja.

The seminar, which is targeted at stakeholders in lighting, electrical consultants, electrical contractors, and electrical engineers, presents an opportunity to unveil the latest technology in lighting being championed by Oscram.

Faith Dumbiri, assistant general manager, Orange West Africa Limited, the sole representative of Osram brand in Nigeria, while speaking about the seminar, said the two-day seminar scheduled for May 20 in Lagos, and May 21, in Abuja, would by facilitated by industry experts from Osram global lead by Sam Golmarvi, sales director in charge of Africa and Asia Osram.

Dumbiri said this initiative, which the company hopes to make an annual event, was part of innovative drive geared towards expanding the knowledge of stakeholders on the latest technology, when it comes to the issue of effective energy saving bulbs.

Energy efficiency is the current trend in the global market, she said, adding that while countries in Europe, United States and Ghana had banned the use of incandescent lights, Nigeria still embraced it, despite our having one of the lowest megawatts production in world.

According to her, “efficient energy management is the future of lighting consumption, the world is moving towards LED lighting and Nigeria is still playing catch up on Compact Fluorescent lights (CFL). People hate change of any kind, but energy bulbs and LED’s are here to stay.

A 2012 report from the USA department of the energy shows that LED market is growing and will equal or take over the compact fluorescent lights (CFL). We will save enough energy to light up more than 3 million homes for a year. As simple and cheap the technology is, it’s still not the norm in the Nigerian homes.”
