The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and BHM, a communications and public relations company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to elevate the reputation and visibility of NSE through strategic communications initiatives.

The signing ceremony, held at NSE’s Lagos Liaison Office, was attended by key figures from both organisations, including Margaret Aina Oguntala, NSE’s president and Ayeni Adekunle, BHM’s chief executive officer.

This partnership formalises a longstanding relationship and underscores their commitment to advancing public engagement and shaping the perception of engineering in Nigeria.

NSE and BHM will collaborate on strategic communications advisory, PR activity planning, and media relations to promote the engineering profession, build goodwill, and increase awareness of NSE’s impact on Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.

Oguntala emphasised the importance of the partnership, highlighting BHM’s past contributions to NSE, particularly the 2014 media team training. She also discussed NSE’s commitment to training and professional development, mentioning programs focused on data analytics for emerging engineers and digital transformation for seasoned professionals.

Meanwhile, Adekunle expressed BHM’s enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We see strategic communications as a powerful tool for reshaping perceptions and driving the society’s growth. This collaboration provides a platform to enhance NSE’s thought leadership, showcase its contributions, and inspire the next generation of engineers.”

He also suggested leveraging existing relationships with tertiary institutions to develop professional training programs for young engineers.

Founded in 1958, NSE is dedicated to fostering professional competence and promoting engineering excellence in Nigeria. The recent election of Engr. Oguntala as NSE’s first female president underscores the organization’s commitment to inclusion and professional development.

This partnership between NSE and BHM is expected to strengthen NSE’s engagement with stakeholders in media, business, and government, while also creating new opportunities for training, partnerships, and scholarships.
