Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (NISER) says it will soon publish some economic- related research outcome to address poverty and drive the economy of the country.
Victor Adeyeye, NISER’s acting director general, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
Adeyeye said that one of the researches was the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) intervention fund on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.
He said that the research formed the core of the informal sector, which drives the economy.
“We are looking at the research from the point of intervention on inclusive growth and issue of poverty reduction.
“We will complete it, God willing before December and we will publish it.
“Any research we do doesn’t end at that point. We generate policy brief on it,’’ the director-general said.
In addition, he said that NISER had started working on the School Feeding Programme research.
Adeyeye said that the institute had started to carry out a literature review and proposal writing on the research.
“The Federal Government is on the right track with the School Feeding Programme; no nation develops stronger than its human capital base.
“You need to know that there is positive correlation between nutrition and productivity even at the educational level,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the director-general advised the government to go into massive development of agriculture to achieve its diversification drive.
He said that focusing on the agriculture on the short and medium term would also help the country to recover from recession.
“But on the long run basis, even the oil we are having now, we should still judiciously make use of it.
“We should apply the resources from oil sector to develop agriculture, solid minerals and human capital; all these are very important,’’ he said.
NAN reports that NISER is Federal Government parastatal under the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
The institute has the mandate to conduct research, provide consultancy services, organise policy dialogue and collaborate with similar institutions nationally and internationally in the field of social and economic development. (NAN)
