Nigeria’s oil and gas sector has recorded another landmark achievement in the area of local content as Nigerdock, a leading indigenous Nigerian oil services company and a member of Jagal Group, has successfully completed the fabrication and sail-away of the topsides of 90,000 barrels per day capacity, Ofon 2 oilfield project, being developed by French oil giant, Total Plc.
The Ofon Phase 2 will unlock the field’s undeveloped reserves to increase production and boost power supply in the country.
Speaking at the event to mark the sail away of the topsides at Snake Island, Nicolas Terraz, Managing Director/Chief Executive, Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria said the project will check gas flaring and increase oil production significantly.
“These will stop routine gas flaring by monetizing associated gas from Ofon field, increase oil production from 25,000 to 90,000 bopd, by drilling 24 additional new wells and implementing gas lift activation,” Terraz said.
He further added that the Ofon Phase 2 platforms are purely local content driven as over 3,000 Nigerians over a period of four years were employed.
“The Ofon Phase 2 has opened a new chapter in the development of Nigerian content. It is the first project ever with so many facilities manufactured in Nigeria.
“The platforms were entirely built in Nigeria, under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract awarded to an indigenous company Nigerdock in September 2011.
Commenting on the project, Anwar Jarmakin, Chairman Nigerdock Nigeria Plc, said the completion of the Ofon Platform is a celebration of another milestone in the oil and gas industry.
“The project will bring about additional oil and gas production from 25,000 barrels of oil equivalent to 90,000 barrels per day.
“ It will also help to stop gas flaring on Ofon and deliver gas to Bonny LNG plant via Amenam field and boost the domestic gas market and provide power for Nigeria’s domestic and industrial needs in line with the Federal Government’s power sector objectives.
