Sulaiman Adedokun, group managing director (GMD), Meristem Securities Limited, has disclosed that the firm will be focusing on creating investment pathways for youths empowerment in 2025.
“And if we are able to empower them, we are better off. So, one of the areas we are going to focus as an organisation is on this area of youth empowerment. Because we have something we call MOB, which is focusing deeply on youth investment and entrepreneurship,” he said during the Meristem 2025 Annual Outlook Conference held in Lagos recently.
According to Adedokun, a lot of Nigerian youths have innovative ideas, but lack the financial support needed to fund their ideas. Hence, the firm will provide a pathway towards educating and making the youth more entrepreneurial.
Speaking on financial market, Adedokun said that the firm is keen on helping its clients to make better return in the fiscal year. He said Meristem does not want any of its clients or investors in the capital market to lose value.
“As an organisation we have the responsibility of providing insights to do a deep dive into our environment both global and domestic environment. What’s happening in the sector, what’s happening in the asset classes.”
“As a firm, we have expertise to manage investment; we have expertise in dealings to ensure you have better returns on your investments. The world is changing and things are moving fast; if we do not take action as time, we lose value,” he said.
Tope Fasua, special adviser to the president on Economic Affairs (Office of the vice president), highlighted some of the effects of the naira devaluation and the 2025 budget, and disclosed that the current administration is focusing on boosting local economy.
“But what we can do is focus on the Nigerian economy and the domestic economy, and see what Naira can buy. So, when we talk about purchasing power parity, essentially, you’re saying that $10 in New York, for example, probably can’t even buy your lunch. However, $10 translates to about N16, 000 in Nigeria. So, we intend to see how we can focus on the local economy,” Fasua said.
