Nigeria’s eCommerce logistics space has received a big fillip as Metro Africa Xpress, also known as MAX.ng, launches speedy but low-cost delivery services to the populace.
With MAX, which is the Africa’s first hyper-local on-demand delivery service, Nigerians are now rest assured that their goods, documents and other items will be delivered at an incredible speed through delivery champions.
“Max is building a bank of delivery experts,” said Adetayo Bamiduro, co-founder, Metro Africa Xpress, at a press conference in Lagos.
“Our services are fast, speedy and max. We chose motorcycles because they are significantly faster, more efficient, saves you a lot of energy and delivers same day,” Bamiduro, who is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, said. He said the firm hopes to inspire a new generation of young African entrepreneurs who will spearhead the continent’s economic renaissance
MAX recently launched in Lagos with a mission to reinvent eCommerce logistics in Africa. Its objective is to move products rapidly within Africa’s commercial hubs on behalf of consumers, merchants and corporates.
The firm currently provides express deliveries to leading eCommerce companies, corporations, online merchants and everyday individuals within the Lagos Metropolis.
“Our vision is to cover 50 cities in Africa,” he added.
Chinedu Azodoh, co-founder and also graduate of the MIT, said the company has a vision for young Nigerians, local businesses, women entrepreneurs and the environment, stressing that the logistics firm carries our preventive maintenance from time to time on its motorcycles to ensure that every Lagosian gets faster delivery.
One of the unique selling points of MAX is a proprietary technology platform that connects these ‘delivery champions’ with delivery requests in real-time, making it possible to pick up and deliver products to customers within 3 hours.
According to Azodoh, MAX will help unlock Africa’s retail potential and accelerate inclusive economic growth, adding that the solution MAX brings solves a deep local problem.
He said with the opportunities ahead, MAX could become a billion dollar company.
“Logistics businesses are typically asset heavy, with low barriers to entry and small operating margins. MAX will break convention by operating a highly scalable CAPEX light model with fair margins,” he said.
When the founders were how they build an UBER type fulfilment model that allows goods to move around seamlessly within an African context, Adetayo responded: This time, we need to take the initiative. There’s nothing wrong with bringing in expat support, but we need to build internal capabilities and build our own solutions”.
