The members of Masters Printers Association in Awka, Anambra State, have appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to allocate an industrial land within the municipal city to their group, to enable them coordinate their business activities and expand their act of practicing.
The group has also sent an appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to instill measures that would actualize the completion of the Dry Port in Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub, as well as ensure the extension of the railway line from Enugu to Awka, to facilitate the easy movement of goods and services in the state.
In a chat with newsmen in Awka at the weekend, the assistant chairman of the association, Charles Nosike Chukwurah, said the industrial land, if approved would help the members curtail losses involved in the frequent transfer of practicing machine and other hardware from one building to another.
Chukwurah also said if the industrial land is allocated, would go a long way to complement the widening spate of development in the capital city of Awka by Governor Obiano, as well as enable the association harness its members for effective development of the printing industry and create job opportunities for the teeming youths, among others.
He pointed out the need for every well-meaning individual to support the giant strides of Governor Obiano in uplifting the infrastructural and economic standard of the Awka Capital City by the erection of three fly-over bridges, construction of link roads and providing the enabling environment for investment. In the same vein, Chukwurah urged President Buhari to enhance the development of commerce and industry in the South East by providing the necessary platform for both social and economic growth.
According to him, “While we commend the President for his sustained fight against corruption, which has gone a long way to restore the dignity of the Nigerian nation among the comity of nations, we passionately appeal to him to ensure the completion of the Dry Port; and ensure the extension of the railway line to Awka, the state capital city, since Anambra is a commercially-oriented state; and has great need of these facilities.”
