Jumia opens logistics service to third parties to grow portfolio

Jumia Nigeria emerges winner of HR Best Practice in e-commerce sector

Jumia has announced that its logistics service is now available for use by third parties in order to deepen the logistics value-chain across Africa and grow its portfolio on the continent.

Jumia’s logistics services were previously reserved for eCommerce and food vendors operating on its marketplace. Following the announcement, Jumia’s logistics services are now open to third party businesses who wish to leverage its network, technology and expertise for last-mile deliveries across 11 countries in Africa.

“Our technology and lastmile services have a wide coverage that enhances faster turnaround time, reliable handling of products and transparent reporting, all of which have contributed to the success of Jumia, both in urban and rural areas. We are proud to share this technology with a broader set of businesses and give them new opportunities to grow,” said Apoorva Kumar, senior vice president logistics services at Jumia.

According to Kumar, Jumia’s logistics marketplace is uniquely adapted to Africa, based on its logistics network and proprietary technology, which aggregates demand and matches it with supply capacity.

Kumar opined that businesses across the continent are re-examining their costs, especially during COVID-19. He stated that for many in the supply value-chain, logistics is a major cost driver and headache to manage.

“We have the right infrastructure, people, partnerships and technology required to help third parties and partners solve logistics and marketing challenges. We believe we can provide a better quality of service at a lower cost,” Kumar said.

Kumar revealed further that Jumia has been piloting its offering with selected clients over the last few months, from small businesses shipping a few packages every week to larger corporations.

Chidi Jud, CEO ACOA Logistics Nigeria, said the new initiative is a boost for all Jumia Logistics local partners that will be able to drive more volume through the Jumia logistics network.

According to Jud, ACOA adapted its business using Jumia’s apps to drive riders’ efficiency and customer experience.
