The anticipation in some quarters that the 26th Enugu trade fair will witness low turnout as a result of the change in the general election date has been proved wrong following the number of participants at the first day of fair.
The official opening of this year’s international fair in Enugu witnessed greater number of participants at the kick off date than other years with particular reference to last year.
BusinessDay at the fair ground saw that lots of shops had been erected with business ongoing while many others were busy putting finishing touches to start earlier business at various spaces allocated to them.
Among the first foreign companies that have already taken their positions include Indian and Ghanaian companies.
Declaring the fair open the Enugu State governor, who was represented by his commissioner for commerce and industry Jude Akubilo said his aim for opening up rural roads was to ensure development of such areas in relation to the evacuation of their agricultural produce.
He said his ambition for the eight years was in spite of other things to change the state from civil servant state to industrial hub by providing a friendly business atmosphere for investors to thrive.
Akubilo promised that before the present administration hands over to the new one the issue of multiple taxation in the state would had been addressed, pointing out that he was the chairman of the committee set up by the governor to look into the issue.
