IBEDC pledges eradication of estimated billing

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has restated its commitment to the metering of all customers in its network and the eradication of estimated billing.

The IBDEC franchise area cuts across Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Kwara states, and parts of Ekiti, Kogi and Niger states.

The company said arrangements were in top gear for the mass procurement of split unit prepaid meters that will be deployed to the premises of existing customers, who were presently on estimated billing and for new applicants.

A statement by Tokunbo Peters, its principal manager (public affairs), noted that only the best meters that will efficiently serve both the interest of the customers and the company will be deployed to its network. The preferred meters will not only correct the problem of estimated billing, but they will also put a stop to the perennial problem of energy theft by people who circumvent the pre-paid meters. Ultimately, the company believes that the mass deployment of these sets of meters in its network will encourage customers in its franchise area to adopt its policies of energy conservation by avoiding wasteful use of electricity.

The company, however, alerted members of the public in its franchise area to be wary of some unscrupulous people trying to catch in on the present lull in metering to make some quick money.
