Sesan Shobowale, corporate relations director, Guinness Nigeria Plc on Monday disclosed that over 600 million people all over the world, including Nigeria lack access to clean water, saying increasing lack of access to clean water causes lots of water-borne diseases that account for loss of lives.

Guinness Nigeria Plc made the declaration on Monday at the donation of over 23.7 million capacity water facilities of Adigbe in Obafemi-Owode Local Government yesterday, adding

Shobowale, who narrowed the lack of access to clean water down to Nigeria, where he said, over 60 million Nigerians lack access to clean water, revealed that Guinness has, since 2007, provided clean drinking water to over 10 million people in 18 countries in Africa under its Water to Life Programme.

He added that the water fa‎cilities have been constructed in 22 communities across Nigeria  under the aegis of the Water to Life Programme in Nigeria, explaining that these water projects of Guinness Nigeria Plc has helped thousands of Nigerian families to have access clean water and ultimately improve their overall health and well-being.

“Scarcity of clean water in Nigeria has fuelled the spread of deadly, easily preventable diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and ‎typhoid. This worrisome status quo inspired ‎Diageo’s water blueprint which articulates the role we play in addressing a wide range of water-related issues both in Nigeria and globally.

“Diageo has prioritised interventions that provide clean drinking water for communities around the world. We have also invested in technologies that help us manage our water use”, he said.

Receiving the project on behalf of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state, Yetunde Onanuga, the deputy governor, called on cooperate firms to emulate Guiness Nigeria Plc in providing social amenities for the people of the state, the gesture has demonstrated that the brewer has the love of communities at heart.

Onanuga who congratulated the residents of Adigbe area of Obafemi-Owode Local Council on the water project and the innovation on water production and distribution to the people of the community, appealing to them to be conscious its effective maintenance.
