General Motors recalls nearly 1.04 million new pickup trucks for faulty seat belts

US largest automaker General Motors (GM) has announced the recall of about 1.04 million newer pickup trucks for a seat belt flaw.

The trucks which includes the 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 has not been linked to any crashes or injuries according to the company. The cost of the large recall however “is not expected to be significant and is covered within normal and customary warranty reserves.”

The recall in the US, said GM, includes 895,232 vehicles and a stop sale of approximately 3,000 new 2014 and 2015 model year pickups still on dealer lots. It also includes about 142,000 vehicles outside the United States.

A warranty data that showed the flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle which can separate over time as a result of the driver repeatedly bending the cable when entering the seat prompted the recall according to GM.

Dealers will enlarge the side shield opening, install a bracket on the tensioner (a device that applies a force to create or maintain tension), and if necessary, replace the tensioner assembly.

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are a series of full-size and heavy-duty pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors and introduced in 1999 as the successor to Chevrolet C/K line which ran for a long time.

Over the years, newer editions or models of the GMT800 Silverado/Sierra in different variants have come to replace the 1999 models. From 2007 to 2014 GM began to push it a second generation called the GMT/900 generation.

The redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2014 GMC Sierra were introduced as the third generation of the models. In 2015 the special edition for the Silverado truck series was introduced by Chevrolet. They are in the following series of Rally Edition 1 and 2, Midnight Edition, Custom Sport Edition, Custom Sport plus Edition, Black out Edition, and Texas Longhorns Edition.

In 2016, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra received its first mid-cycle refresh. GMC also introduced the Sierra All Terrain X, which is equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine with performance exhaust, bumping output up from 355 to 365 horsepower.
