Firstbank to sensitise banking customers on cybersecurity

First Bank secures $150m Afreximbank facility to support businesses

First Bank of Nigeria will on Friday sensitise banking customers and businesses on how to avoid becoming victims of cyber fraud or criminality online.

The sensitisation which will come during a virtual event the bank has titled ‘Staying Protected Amidst the Pandemic Chaos, ’ is part of efforts by the bank to check the rising spate of cyber criminality.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the adoption of digital technology by individuals and companies. While that has helped the digitalisation of many ways of doing things, it has also empowered some individuals with sinister motives.

Firstbank says participants at the webinar will be equipped with vital information that will ensure they make informed decisions, thereby promoting their safety whilst staying protected against possible risks and malicious attacks.

“The world as a global village is associated with not just benefits but also risks of cyberattack and for individuals, businesses, and governments to make the best out of the digital and online opportunities, they need to be deliberate in protecting themselves against cybersecurity threats,” Adesola Adeduntan, CEO of Firstbank Group said.

Adeduntan pointed out that the growth in digital adoption has seen cyberattacks grow at an alarming rate across the world. This means no individual or business can claim immunity from the menace. The attacks also have financial, physical, and legal implications on businesses.

Speakers expected to speak at the webinar include Tope Aladenusi, Chief Strategy and Cyber Risk Services Leader, Deloitte West Africa; Confidence Staveley, Cyber Security Evangelist and founder, Cybersafe Foundation; and Harrison Nnaji, Chief Information Security Officer, Firstbank.
