As part of its strategic plans to address the issue of cyber crime the country is grappling with, Digital Jewels Limited has stepped up awareness on cyber security with the birth of ‘Online Wisdom and Secure Sense.
Adedoyin Odunfa, managing director, Digital Jewels Limited, while speaking recently at the Information Security Awareness Programme and product launch in Lagos, said they realised that social engineering was one of the key sources of cyber threat.
According to Odunfa, lack of awareness and lack of cyber security skills are the key factors affecting information security, as “there is a need for natural awareness programmes and that is why we should ensure we raise enough awareness in our various constituencies to this effect.”
She revealed that the target of Digital Jewels in bringing to life the Online Wisdom, which comes in form of books and CDs, was to heighten the level of information security awareness that will help minimise the level of information security compromise and electronic banking fraud.
On the other hand, she explained that the Secure Sense was an initiative aimed at improving work place security in the public and private sector, saying “there is an urgent need for virtual awareness, virtual PCIDSS, posters, screen savers and illustrative videos aimed at ensuring awareness in information security.”
Tope Fashedemi, director (e-Government), Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, in his keynote address, said government was doing a lot to ensure cyber insecurity was reduced, adding it had taken special care to ensure the devices were from various countries, which makes it difficult to be manipulated.
According to Tope, “the need for awareness cannot be over emphasised as there could be online safety campaigns, educating the public on ways to ensure their accounts are safe so as to ensure disasters are avoided in the future.”
He commended Digital Jewels for the bold steps they had taken in ensuring cyber insecurity was minimised.
