In recognition for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of Nigerian Content implementation and ownership of resources used to develop Nigeria’s economy, the management of Nigerian NewsDirect national daily newspaper would honour Aliko Dangote, president, Dangote Group; Samuel Ortom, The Benue State Governor; Enitan Ogunwusi Adeyeye ,The Ooni of Ife, among several other accomplished personalities, companies and government agencies.
Other notable Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various human endeavours particularly those creating gainful employment in the country would also be the honoured.
This will take place during the 6th Anniversary Lecture of the company with the theme: Seven Years of Nigerian Content Implementation, State Ownership of Resources Vs Infrastructural Development to be chaired by the President Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Abiodun Adesanya.
Samuel Ibiyemi, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Nigerian NewsDirect, said the theme of the lecture scheduled to hold at Airport Hotel on Saturday, 22nd April, 2017 was selected to address the underpinning challenges limiting the full implementation of the Nigerian Content Act passed seven years ago by the National Assembly which has continued to hamper on sundry issues as they relate to resource control and infrastructure development in the country.
Ibiyemi observe that in furtherance of the ownership controversy over control of oil and solid minerals coupled with the damning challenge of poor infrastructures in resource-rich communities, many residents of these communities had been compelled to solely depend on their state governments for a means of livelihood leading to abject poverty and social insecurity among the populace.
“This anniversary lecture will enable Nigerian NewsDirect to make salient contributions to national issues that will boost economic growth through adequate human capacity development and the maximization of material resources in the nation,” he assured.
Also, as a business national newspaper with special focus on businesses, trades and industries, Nigerian NewsDirect plans to use the lecture to further drive the 100% implementation of the Nigerian Content Act, 2010 across several sectors of the economy targeted at boosting local capacity and reduce unemployment in the country.
Also to be honoured at the event includes: Simbi Wabote, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board Executive Secretary; Afe Mayowa, President of Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria; Herbert Wigwe Managing Director of Access Bank; Bank-Anthony Okoroafor, Chairman of Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN); Andy Isichei, President of Nigerian Shippers Council.
Others are Greg Ogbeifun, President Ship Owners Association, Acting Managing Director Bank of Industry, Waheed Olagunju, Senator Dino Melaye, House of Representatives Chairman on Nigerian Content Committee, Emmanuel Ekon, Senate Committee Chairman on Petroleum Upstream Sen Tayo Alasoadura and Vice Chairman of Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream Sen Gershom Bassey.
