CWG sees exporting local IPs get Nigeria out of recession

CWG Plc, one of Nigeria’s biggest information technology integration company has asserted that the best possible way that Nigeria can get out of the present economic recession is to start exporting Intellectual Properties to other countries of the world.

The sector head, government at CWG Plc, Udukheli Izebuno, stated this while responding to media questions on how Information and Communications Technology can help government boost the economy, which is presently in a recession.

According to Izebuno, the number one thing Nigeria should seek to get the country out of recession is to export Intellectual Properties, just like Oracle, SAP and Microsoft of this world are exported to other countries.

“Technology appears to be the life wire of any nation. I believe that for Nigeria to get out of the present economic recession, our local technology must be exported to other countries. Technology export is still very low in Nigeria; this is an area the country can get a lot of export and forex,” he noted.

He believes that several innovative ideas that can be exported outside the country abound in the country, stressing that what is needed is to encourage local content development by promoting Nigerian products and services.

“We have Nigerians that can do as good as any other person in the world. Why can’t we promote these Nigerians with innovative ideas to be export quality and standard? Most governments in the West give grants and invest in local companies to boost them to become an export quality company,” Izebuno added.

He cited example of some products initiated and produced locally by CWG Plc, which can be exported to other countries. One of such products, according to him is the power solution that can help electricity distribution companies to track power.

He said the power solution can track power usage in the country. Meaning the Discos would be able to know the amount of power that can be given to a particular area, and the consumer too would be able to know the amount of power he has consumed.

“Our Power solution is a locally produced product by CWG. It can be exported because it has global standard. What it does is to give access to the Discos to see what they can give out; it can track real time online when there is an issue in the distribution channel. The solution allows Discos to quickly know if there is a power drop or outage and it can also indicate exactly the area where the issue happened,” Izebuno submitted.
