Carlos Trejo Sosa, the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria has called on the President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Tony Ejinkeonye to assist his country in increasing their trade volume with Nigeria, which currently stands at $2million.
The Ambassador stated this when he received a delegation of the Abuja Chamber of commerce and Industry led by the President Tony Ejinkeonye at the Cuban Embassy in Abuja.
The ambassador informed that Nigeria and Cuba could ride on similar cultural outlook and good relationship to expand both countries trade relations.
The ambassador said:“Cuba and Nigeria shares the same cultural outlook and good relationship but there is trade disparity between the two countries”.
“Cuba has many economic opportunities which have amplified our economic relations with the Asian and European Continent,” he said
“Cuban government foreign economic Policy is geared towards the African market with specific interest in Nigeria”.
The Ambassador expressed concern at the fact that the Cuba-Nigeria trade volume hovers around $2m which according to him does not represent good economic relationship with the Africa largest economy.
“There are huge investment opportunities in the Tourism and Agricultural sectors of the Cuban economy.
“Cuba imports 80% of her food and exports mainly pharmaceutical products and health services,” the envoy said.
He stated that Cuban medical practitioners are best around the world with state-of-the art hospitals domicile in their country.
In his response, Ejinkeonye stated that since Nigeria and Cuba share the same culture therefore it ought to have better economic ties.
