As part of its effort to contribute to the sustainable development of the female gender in corporate Nigeria, Women In Successful Careers (WISCAR) organized a one-day training workshop for the mentees under its wing at its headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The training tagged ‘Great Work, Great Career’ was centered on improving integral communication skills among participants. Speakers at the event were former CNN correspondent and Emmy Award winning reporter Gina London and Olufunke Amobi, Country Head, Talents and Organizational Development, Stanb
ic IBTC.
While addressing the audience, Gina cited poor networking skills and a penchant for mediocrity as the major reason for low female representation at the echelons of the business and corporate world. According to her, “Nigerian women need to realize that the good things they wish for will not fall on their tables if they are not willing to go out and work hard for it. They have to refuse to be boxed into the lifestyles leaning on archaic mindsets. In this time and age, they need to see the world as their launch pads”.
WISCAR was founded in 2008 by Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, the Executive Head, Corporate Communications, MTN Nigeria. The next training session will take place next month.
