The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has partner with the Lagos State government to deepen Human Resource (HR) capacity of civil servants in the state.
“Nigeria is not going to move forward unless we reform the public sector, and the reforms will not be created unless we invest in people.HR is all about people management which we need to get right,” said Udom Uko Inoyo, president and chairman of council, CIPM at the institute 25th induction ceremony held recently in Lagos.
“I really commend the Lagos state government for this initiative of ensuring that CIPM collaborates with the state in building capacity and helping every public sector employee who is into HR,” Inoyo said.
A total of 158 civil servants in various ministries were inducted as HR practioners by CIPM.
Also speaking during the ceremony, Olabowale Toluwalye Ademola, Head of Service, Lagos state said the partnership will help advance HR practice in the state. “This is a testament of Lagos state preparedness to offer excellent service and fulfilment of that determination to its citizens,” Ademola said.
She urged the inductees to ensure that they use best practices in delivering services to the public.
Abiola Popoola, fellow and past president, CIPM, in his paper presentation ‘Towards Excellence in Service Delivery’ said the role of HR is fast changing because the world is a place where things are volatile.
Popoola stated that people are the corner stone of any organisation and the HR department is being looked at to achieve it. “You cannot offer excellent service without understanding the needs of the people you are serving,” he said.
He called on the inductees to continue investing in themselves to keep developing their HR skills, stating that there is no end to learning.
