CIPM, CIPD signs MoU on knowledge exchange, professional growth in HR

CIPM, NGX to deepen advocacy on HR management

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional growth in human resources (HR) across continents.

The partnership reinforces and strengthens the bonds, particularly in the people and business management space, and will allow both organisations to leverage their collective expertise to address the challenges facing the HR profession in their respective countries and positively impact the global HR landscape.

Olusegun Mojeed, president & chairman, governing council, CIPM, said during the virtual CIPM–CIPD MoU signing ceremony on Friday, June 2, 2023, that the partnership is a testament to the shared values and common pursuit of excellence that bind both institutes. “I am delighted, albeit excited to be here today for the commencement of this strategic partnership. Nigeria and the United Kingdom have long-standing ties, both culturally and economically”.

According to Mojeed, the newly inaugurated CIPM United Kingdom Branch will also facilitate the execution of some of the initiatives in the MoU, which among other things will allow for mutual recognition of CIPM and CIPD members/certification through professional examination and experience routes benchmarked against the CIPD Profession Map and the CIPM Body of Knowledge (BoK) respectively.

Accordingly, the partnership will allow both institutes to share relevant information, insights, and best practices on the HR/People Management profession globally, including regulatory and other matters in markets of mutual interest. It will also include partnering on the delivery of both virtual and physical learning programmes and conferences by providing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)/Faculty for relevant or unique subject areas.

Furthermore, Mojeed disclosed that both the CIPM and CIPD will be collaborating on research efforts (including research grants where available) related to the development and advancement of the HR/People Management profession with emphasis on member education, trends forecasting, and international recognition and credibility for the profession.

He equally disclosed that the partnership will allow both institutes to deliver mutually agreed learning programmes, short certification programmes and other capacity-building workshops on relevant topics to stakeholders in public and private sectors based on agreed terms.

Peter Cheese, the chief executive, CIPD, said the partnership represents the shared intent, ideals, and principles of what both institutes believe for the profession. According to him, the MoU spotlights the reason why both institutes should share ideas on best practices in HR.

“What we first represent is the ideal of professionalism; the ideal that people practising in HR should have strong professional capabilities, credentials; they should commit to continued professional development in learning, and to the highest standard of professionalism,” Cheese said.
