CHI woos tertiary institution students to embrace insurance profession

Determined to harness new talents and encourage love for insurance profession among students of tertiary institutions, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (CHI) plc has sustained its annual essay competition and award with enhanced packages.

The company’s vision towards this project is geared at harnessing new talents that would grow and take over the industry as current practitioners age out, amid competitive business environment that is changing with speed on new technological advancement.

According Bola Temowo, president, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), human capital development is an agenda that must be pursued vigorously by all in the industry by engaging new brains and talents to make the industry remain relevant in the emerging economy.

CHI, which started this project in 2011, according to its managing director, Eddie Efekoha, sees the initiative as its own contribution towards more awareness and to encourage students in tertiary institutions that taking a career in insurance is not only rewarding, but offers them opportunity to rise to the highest level in the industry and the economy.

“We have also enhanced the award prizes at all levels to encourage research among students of insurance in tertiary institutions across the country. The 2014 edition which was keenly contested has as its topic ‘Impact of Micro-insurance to the Economic Development of Nigeria,’”

At the award presentation ceremony held in Lagos, Abiola Atinukeola Gbemisola of Polytechnic, Ibadan, won the first prize and went home with N250,000, while Chukwuemeka Nwane-nnaya, from the University of Lagos, came second and won N150,000. Olaniyi Beson Opeyene came third with cash award of N100,000. Besides, the first winner gained automatic employment with the company on graduation from school.

Meanwhile, the maiden winner of the competition and the second-year winner are already working in CHI, and the company gave good testimonies of their display of brilliancy, as the initiative is worth its while and would be sustained in the years ahead, the company said.

According to the company, the monetary reward is deliberately increased to generate more interest among students, and congratulated winners for their brilliance and interest.
