Bolt, a ride-hailing service in Nigeria has committed over N20 million to boost its users’ safety.
The investment will be used to implement new safety features and stricter enforcement measures, according to a statement.
“At Bolt, the safety of all users on our platform is our top priority. We understand the trust our users place in us, and we are taking proactive steps to ensure their well-being during every ride,” Yahaya Mohammed, country manager said in the statement.
He said the company Bolt continues to invest in cutting-edge technology to identify and address critical safety issues promptly. “This includes features like the driver selfie check, which deters cases of driver impersonation and account sharing.”
Additionally, Bolt has launched comprehensive awareness and training programs for both drivers and riders, emphasizing the importance of safe and responsible behaviour on the platform.

He also noted that in the last six months, the company has removed over 5,000 drivers from the platform due to safety and compliance issues.
“Any driver or rider found in violation of safety standards as well as being non-compliant will face swift and decisive consequences, including permanent suspension from the platform. These strict compliance measures have so far resulted in over 5000 drivers being denied access from the platform,” he said.
Further enhancing its safety infrastructure, the company introduced enhanced reporting mechanisms that empower users to report safety concerns more efficiently.

This includes improved in-app features to facilitate communication and prompt assistance in case of any issues during a trip, dedicated 24/7 safety and social media support, also available to address users’ concerns promptly.
“Our enhanced safety measures, and stricter compliance measures, coupled with technology-driven solutions, reaffirm our commitment to providing a secure and reliable transportation experience for all,” Mohammed said.
