Access Bank (Ghana) appoints new board chairman, directors

Access Bank (Ghana) Limited has signaled its strong commitment to Ghana with the appointment of a new board chairman and four new directors to strengthen its existing team to oversee the next phase of its growth and expansion.

Frank W. K. Beecham, a seasoned lawyer and a past National President of the Ghana Bar Association who joined the board as a director in 2012, has been appointed the new chairman. Beecham will succeed Herbert Wigwe, who was recently appointed as the group managing director of Access Bank plc, Nigeria.

Commenting on his appointment, Beecham noted that “the re-organisation of the Ghana Board is demonstration of a strong institutional commitment to sustainability and a robust succession plan”. He said: “Ghana is an important market within the Access Bank Group, and we have an experienced team whose diverse professional knowledge, skills and competencies will enable us drive the bank’s strategy.

“I am confident that, together, we will build on our successes thus far and support our parent company to achieve its vision of becoming the World’s Most Respected African Bank.”

In a related development, Access Bank (Ghana) Limited has also appointed two accomplished Ghanaian individuals, Ernest Mintah and Ms Abena Amoah, as non-executive directors. This brings to four the total number of Ghanaian directors on the Board.

She is currently the chief executive officer of Baobab Advisors, a financial advisory services company she founded in 2011. Prior to that, she headed the Ghana office of Renaissance Capital, a leading investment bank in Moscow, and was an executive director at Strategic Africa Securities where she started her career.

Speaking on the reconstitution of the board, Dolapo Ogundimu, Managing Director, stated that:“The new appointments will reinforce the bank’s leadership position in the Ghanaian market, helping it to create more value for its customers, employees, shareholders, investors and local communities through sustainable business practices”.

The entire membership of the reconstituted board of Access Bank Ghana includes: Frank Beecham, Dela Selormey, Ernest Mintah, Abena Amoah, Kameel Adebayo, and Dolapo Ogundimu.
