The Mayor of Brent, United Kingdom, Michael Adeyeye, has said there is need to foster closer relationship between Nigeria and UK in order to bring about development.

Adeyeye, who paid a special visit to Amuwo Odofin Local Government on arrival in Lagos recently, added that his visit was to familiarise with the local government and seek ways of fostering trade relations between both communities.

During an interactive session with journalists, the Major expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Amuwo local government administration, describing Ayodele Adewale, the council chairman, as “a pragmatic youth leader that a lot of people are aware of”.

He stressed that the LG boss has displayed uncommon leadership qualities, which necessitated his visit.

Adeyeye also hoped that the progress and the developmental projects in place would be vigorously sustained by subsequent administrations, calling for unflinching support from the citizenry and stating that it would bring more development to the community.

Responding, Adewale thanked the Mayor for the visit, appreciated his commendations, and pledged not to rest on his oars in delivering the dividends of democracy to the governed.

The LG boss said that it was important to align with Brent on certain issues that would bring development to all, especially the study exchange programmes, trade and investments and skills acquisition, among others, promising to sponsor youths of the community to the next Nottingham carnival in UK.
