Transport fee increases by 32.7% in May

The average fare paid by commuters for bus journey within the city increased by 32.7 percent year –on-year to N166.9 in May 2018 from N131.0 in May 2017 and rose marginally by 0.53 percent month-on-month from N165.9 in April 2018,according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Transport watch report released this evening.

 

States with highest bus journey fare within city were Abuja FCT having N325.2, Cross River having N282.1 and Abia with N235.5 while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Bauchi having N87.9, Anambra with N93.3 and Rivers having N96.36.

 

The Transport fare watch report for May 2018 covers the following categories namely bus journey within the city per drop constant route ; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; air fare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and water way passenger transport.

 

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity decreased by 0.05 percent month-on-month and increased by 14.9 perent year-on-year to N1,716.3 in May 2018 from N1,722.9 in April 2018. States with highest bus journey fare intercity were Abuja FCT having N4,125.5, Adamawa having N3,166.5 and Borno with N2,744.4 while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Bauchi having N1,064.54, Enugu had N1,096.9 and Yobe with N1,125.0.

Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey decreased by 0.40 percent month-on-month and increased by 1.0 percent year-on-year to N31,659.8 in May 2018 from N31,833.5 in April 2018.

States with highest air fare were Lagos with N40,500.0, Edo with N39,950.0 and Abuja FCT having N39,592.6 while States with lowest air fare were Katsina having N24,300.0, Osun having N24,950.5, and Nassarawa having N25,700.2

Average fare paid by commuters for journey by motorcycle per drop decreased by 0.6 percent month-on-month and increased by 7.9 percent year-on-year to N105.6 in May 2018 from to N106.3 in April 2018. States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ondo (N185.6), Rivers (N173.5) and Enugu ( N168.4) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ekiti (N58.50), Niger (N57.14) and Katsina (N52.14).

Average fare paid by passengers for water way passenger transport increased by 0.57 percent month-on-month and decreased by 2.9 percent year-on-year to N573.1 in May 2018 from N572.2 in April 2018. States with highest fare by water way passenger transport were Rivers (N2,000.5), Bayelsa (N1,933.3) and Delta (N1,548.2) while states with lowest fare by water way passenger transport were Borno (N144.5), Gombe (N177.6) and Abuja FCT (N241.1)
