The Plateau Government said it collected N8.35 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2014.
Pam Samuel, Chairman, Plateau Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), said on Tuesday in Jos that the amount fell below the expectation of the service.
Giving the analysis of the year’s revenue data, the chairman said the bulk of the collection came from Pay As You Earn (PAYE) of N4.3 billion, representing 51 per cent.
Samuel further disclosed that N2.35 billion of the revenue came from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), while the highest collection of N813 million was made in May; and April had the lowest of N567 million.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the year’s collection, considering the high expectation of the service in the year.
“I wish to state here that the N8.35 billion generated last year is far below our expectation of N12 billion, “he said.
The chairman blamed the shortfall on the economic recession being experienced across the globe, which he said had some negative effect on the economy of the state.
Samuel appealed to tax payers not to relent in meeting up their responsibility of paying their taxes.
According to him, “when we generate substantial amount of revenue, the government can meet up with its responsibility of providing the desired social amenities to its citizens“.
