The Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Harry Purwanto, has said that Nigeria and Indonesia can be among the leaders of world economy if their human and natural resources were harnessed.

Purwanto said that judging by the climatic and demographic wealth of the two countries they had the potential to improve on their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to player greater roles in the global economy.

“My mission is to promote communication between Nigeria and Indonesia to boost trade and investment in the countries and to push for people-to-people relationship.

“There are about 16 million Indonesian who are the middle class and the same thing can happen in Nigeria.

“We can harness our natural and human resources to boost our economies,’’ he said.

Responding, Imo Niboro the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), called for further strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries.

Niboro, who was represented by the Acting Managing Director of the agency, Isaac Ighure, said Indonesia had recorded successes through its democratic space, independence and plural media.

“To the best of my knowledge, Nigeria and Indonesia have not had any misunderstanding in our bilateral or diplomatic relationship.

“We want it to continue that way and in fact have it strengthened,’’ he said.
