Nigeria is to host a regional mining summit next year that will bring various operators in the industry in an effort to make true its promise of making the sector contribute over $25 billion to the nation’s GDP.
This was disclosed Friday in Abuja by Abubakar Bawa Bwari, the minister of state for mines and steel development, when he hosted representatives some of the companies partnering with the government to host the event, which include Afrocet Montgomery and Deloitte, among others.
“I am delighted to make these few remarks announcing the partnership between our ministry and Afrocet Montgomery towards the hosting of ConMin West Africa and the National Mining Summit in April 2017,” Bwari told a press conference.
The ConMin or Construction Machinery, Mining, Building Materials conference will hold alongside the National Mining Summit at the International Conference Centre in Abuja between April 25 and 26, 2017.
It will act as a platform for key stakeholders, both regional and international, to converge and discuss business prospects and display leading technologies and equipment in both the construction and mining sectors.
In his remarks, Emma Hooper, who is the business development director of Afrocet Montgomery, said that Nigeria has taken large stride in re-positioning the mining sector, and that the successful exploration and exploitation of its mineral resources has been prioritized as the next frontier of the opportunity for development.
Hooper also noted that, with 44 disparate minerals in over 500 locations, the sector’s potential is massive and the government anticipates its contribution to GDP to exceed $25 billion by the year 2026.

According to him, “having Deloitte as an official strategic partner of the National Mining Summit will ensure that the summit benefits from Deloitte’s unrivalled depth, breadth and quality of expertise in international mining, as well as bring added repute to the summit and attract further interest from key industry leaders.”
“ConMin West Africa 2017 is expected to attract over 150 companies that will exhibit their products and an upward of 3000 visitors from the West African mining and construction sectors.
The exhibition and summit is a joint venture between IMAG, who own the global construction brand, Bauma, and Afrocet Montgomery, who run Africa’s largest mining show, Electra Mining, in Johannesburg.
