The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday said its field officers would visit 480 households and 110 establishments in the FCT to get data on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The Coordinator of the NBS in the FCT, Mr Tunde Oladokun, said this in Abuja when he conducted newsmen round the enumerated areas in Kubwa in the FCT.

Oladokun said the NBS selected 40 Enumeration Areas (EAs) to interview 12 households in each EA, totaling 480 households in the FCT.

He said the field workers would also visit 110 formal business establishments to get data on the challenges mitigating the MSMEs development.

“This survey will identify the challenges and constraints confronting the operations of MSMEs in Nigeria.

“It is also to identify the skill gaps within the sector and determine the growth rate of MSMEs, among others,’’ Oladokun said.

He said the field work would be done for 12 days from Dec. 10 to 22, to determine MSMEs operators’ contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Oladokun said the survey would also reveal the contribution to employment and determine the number of MSMEs in Nigeria on geopolitical and sectoral basis.

According to him, the survey is to furnish the government and other stakeholders with useful information with which to make appropriate policies toward promoting and developing MSMEs.

Oladokun, who complained about people’s reluctance to give information to field workers, solicited the cooperation of relevant stakeholders toward the success of the exercise.

Mr Isaac Joseph, who responded to the NBS questionnaire, said the survey would assist the operators to express challenges mitigating the MSMEs development in the country.

Joseph, who was into shoe making and fabrics production, identified lack of electricity supply and access to funding as challenges being faced in the business.
