The National Automotive Design and Development Council, (NADDC) said it has so far disbursed over N13billion to thirty three local automobile companies under its Automotive Development Fund.

Aminu Jalal,the director general of the Council said the move is part of strategies to further enhance the growth of the nation’s automotive industry,and encourage those in the automotive value chain.

Jalal who made the disclosure  at the closing ceremony of three weeks training workshop on Auto Mechatronics Skills for Modern Motor Vehicle Maintenance in Abuja said the training is targeted at  addressing deficiencies of lack of understanding of the electrical and electronics system in modern cars.

He stated that the three weeks training was also part of NADDC measures in developing the country’s automotive  sector,as he also explained that the fund was disbursed to the local automotive companies through the Bank of Industry.

The director general said  the training had enhanced the capacity of participants in modern vehicle repairs in line with international best practices.

According to him,the  NADDC was working towards establishing Industrial Parks in Lagos, Kaduna and Anambra States where vehicle parts and accessories would be produced towards boosting the sector.

The training would also  address lack of standard method of fault finding,improper tools,equipment and materials handling,little or no experience in workshop management and organisation.

In his own remarks,the National President of National Association of Automobile Technicians,  Alexander Ogba commended NADDC for the training and called for more programmes that would enhance their capacity of motor mechanics for the  growth of the sector.
