Kano grows IGR to N1.8bn monthly

The Kano State government has grown its internally generated revenue (IGR) profile to about N1.8 billion as against an average of less than N400 million it was generating monthly before now.

The figure represented about 140 percent increase when compared to what was being collected as IGR under the past administrations in the state.

Governor Rabi’u` Musa Kwankwaso confirmed this development while receiving staff and students of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, who paid a courtesy visit to Kano Government House as part of their study tour of the state.

He attributed the increase recorded in the sector to the recent reorganisation effected by the administration in the state’s board of internal revenue, which resulted in the capturing of more revenues.

According to him, the development was also as a result of the on-going public education embarked upon by the administration to encourage more residents of the state to pay their tax.

However, some analysts, who spoke to BusinessDay on the issue, are of the view that the improved IGR profile recorded by the administration is still far below what can be earned in the state.
