FG to spend N11.5bn on 15 erosion sites in South East

The Federal Government yesterday said it is spending N11.5 billion to tackle 15 erosion sites in the South Eastern part of the country.

Emeka Eze, director-general of the Bureau for Public Procurement and head of the Presidential Inter-Ministerial Committee set up to monitor ecological projects in the South East stated that President Goodluck Jonathan had during his last visit to the South East pledged to tackle the menace of erosion and other ecological problems in the region.

The presidential committee on erosion and flood control projects in the South Eastern zone was specifically set up by the president to address the pressing problems of erosion, flooding and gullies in this zone.

“The inspection visit was also aimed at fast tracking the on-going ecological projects in the zone and look at other serious problems yet to be tackled”
