The Surveyor-General of the Federation, Ebisintei Awudu, has said that the Federal Government is targeting N1billion through the provision of geo-spatial information and data to the public and private sectors in 2017.

Awudu said this during an interactive session with journalist on Wednesday in Abuja.

“We have given ourselves a billion naira target and we are trying to see how we can achieve that.

‘’We will see that we reposition and generate so much money into the government coffers because our office provides geospatial information and data to the government and the general public’’.

Awudu also said that the basic function of the surveyor to the aviation sector was to define the territory and its content in physical term, whether manmade or natural.

According to him, the office of the surveyor-general is working to install the Continuous Operating Reference System (CORS) needed for dropping planes.

“We need to put it up in the airport to enable aviation and other stakeholders to know where the plan will drop and when it will take off.

“The facilities at the airport in any country must be endorsed by the surveyor-general of that country before it can be accepted,’’ he said.

The surveyor-general said that surveying was the bedrock of any physical development in the country.

“Nobody can do anything on the earth surface without involving a surveyor, for proper planning to achieve what is really needed’’.

He explained that any form of infrastructure development, including roads, drilling of boreholes, and housing among others also required the input of a surveyor.

The surveyor-general also said that surveyors were highly visible professionals in both rural and urban development areas.
