The Federal Government currently owes the Lagos State government N51 billion, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos commissioner for works and infrastructure, has said.

The commissioner, who disclosed this recently at the annual ministerial press briefing, said the debt by the Federal Government was incurred as a result of federal roads within the state which the state government rehabilitated from its coffers.

According to Hamzat, if the money had been paid it could have been mobilised to finance some of the state’s on-going projects”.

He said, “Despite the huge challenges encountered by the state, we remain committed to be a change agent and leave the state’s infrastructure better than we met it”.
